I very much agree... Best way to keep player base is to keep a game up until the new one is complete.

They don't want to put up the server because it's difficult to manage, and confusing procedure. I know there are several people willing to VOLUNTEER their time to support the old server and keep it up 24/7 until the new game comes out.

Ill touch on this, though I shouldn't, simply because I know the answer.
The server cannot just be turned on, because it is not that easy, it is broken, corrupted, what was done to the server, was never completed, and the server cannot be managed, or launched to work correctly.
I have never received a single PM from anyone willing to "volunteer" their time to fix or bring the old server back online. iEnt wont be paying someone else to fix the server as it hasnt worked out to their advantage in quite a while. Its understandable to a point. The hand full of people in the world that can read/write/grasp the code for helbreath are generally very talented individuals, and I can understand them not wanting to spend their time doing it for free. Asking for the quality, and completed work required to run the server to the standards of a company without payment is simply not something you come accross. Coders have been paid with money, items, opportunity and so forth and that compiled with bad decisions in the past is why Helbreath is where it is now.
Private servers are full of opportunist that GM and do a fantastic job running their server, until something goes wrong, that switch is flicked that makes them realize they can do X without getting in trouble, they wont ever get caught, until they do; or the rogue admin that decides to demand items for reward for their work, that creates a snowball into bad decisions and corruption. People offer the world until they are restricted to the cage of employment. They cant do what ever they want, few people can handle this. To my knowledge a single coder has not worked for iEnt that didn't walk away with a stream of drama and rumors because of a bad decision they made, that they never had to answer for. Not corruption, not throwing stones, just a simple bad decision, that was allowed to fester to a point that both sides were left in disarray. (Bad decisions need to be addressed by both sides, iEnt was too withdrawn from the server in recent years and that started back when Tam and I ran things. Its hard to take on the weight of the world for a company and feel you have no backing or support from the company. So I am not pointing fingers directly at the past administration. I have seen it time and time again from a number of companies I have worked for)
In short: (who am I kidding, we all know I don't know how to be short) The server is broken, it cannot be started, rebooted, saved without extensive work from someone knowledgeable enough to finish what was started, create the admin tools needed to manage the game, and continue to help the game through production without search for reward or praise. I promise none of these "people" you know are able to do this, or I believe they would of contacted me by now. The hand full of coders I have talked to (only one of which I believe is capable) is not willing to do it for free. And again, I COMPLETELY understand this, the amount of time needed to do this is huge. I honestly don't think it could happen unless iEnt was willing to pay someone to do it. (Having an actual coder as and employee under the standards we were doing here (weekly meetings, deadlines, rules and structure) would be the best way) but, they are not.) If that changes, someone let me know!
I understand your passion for the game, but what has transpired here in recent history is nothing like what the game has been through in the past. Coders (good ones) don't work for free, and iEnt wont pay them. Feel free to attempt continue to change that, but keep in mind, you will likely need to send emails. Though, the forums were MY baby and the people you need to talk to don't check here much (yet). I would suggest a different attitude when sending the emails though =)
If the constructive purpose for these forums goes away simply because I left the project, I will simply shut them down. The purpose of these forums is not to filter blind hate and anger from those that don't listen, and write their own story for things. I did not mind it in the past as much, because I was far more versed in the "dance" of that argument. I was also involved and was not just making educated guesses, I was talking to the right people to know the right answers. I am not in that position anymore, and I wont be writing walls of text like this to continue the fight.
** Ill be locking the topic now**
If you know anyone willing to do what is listed above, please send myself or Krys a PM and we can easily pass the info to the right people, but as I said. I don't think they exist.
